>> The UV254 organics parameter correlates very well with conventional TOC values. UV254 is subject to Beers Law which states that the relationship between concentration and absorbance is linear. Since TOC is a measure of concentration it is clear that the correlation between TOC and UV254 will also be linear. The exact correlation is usually site specific due to the different absorbance characteristics of the different types of organics that might be found at a particular site. However, since the relationship is linear, it actually does not take many samples to determine a very precise correlation.
Since UV254 can so easily be correlated to TOC values, UV254 instrumentation is often subsituted for much more expensive conventional TOC instrumentation for ppm levels of organics.
